International Conference on Children’s Digital Experiences
Bennett University’s Times School of Media (TSOM) successfully hosted an International Conference on March 10, 2025, in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). The theme of the conference, “Navigating the Digital Landscape: Examining Children’s Experiences through the Lens of Vision Viksit Bharat and SDGs”, brought together experts, researchers, and educators to discuss the evolving digital landscape and its impact on children.
The event featured a keynote address by Dr. Lisa Kervin, Professor at the University of Wollongong, Australia. Dr. Anju Mehrotra, Amitabh Kumar, and Mohd. Kasim also delivered insightful presentations as guest speakers. Discussions focused on digital literacy, online safety, and the role of education in equipping children with the skills to navigate digital spaces safely.
In the digital age, the intersection of children’s rights, safety, and well-being calls for multifaceted academic inquiry and intervention. Children’s access to technology affords tremendous educational and creative opportunities, while simultaneously exposing them to new vulnerabilities such as cyberbullying, online harassment, excessive screen time, and privacy breaches. Academic discourse in this area emphasizes the necessity for rights-based approaches that integrate legal frameworks, policy innovation, and digital citizenship education. It further explores the implications of these issues for children’s mental health, family dynamics, and social development, as seen in studies on smartphone addiction, the psychological impact of online environments, and cyber safety strategies.Research focuses on the transformative potential of technology to democratize learning and foster agency among young users. Investigations address digital literacy, inclusive pedagogy for children with special needs, and the transition from passive media consumption to active content creation.
